Questions We Asked Marcia...

What is your favorite place to write? Depending upon my mood, on my couch, at the dining room table, and on the card table. All of them with the TV playing in the background and Zoe, my bunny, lying between my feet to keep them warm.

Are you a typewriter, Mac, or PC person? PC, baby!

How many full-length novel manuscripts did you complete before selling? Ummmm... let me put it this way. I filled up 10GB of memory on my laptop. If my average manuscript is about 800kb...

Can you give us a quote from one of your best (or worst) rejection letters? The best came from Samhaim. While I don't remember what it said, it was long and drawn out, pinpointing what needed fixing and why. I swear, the editor spent a good amount of time writing this thing, which is unusual for a rejection letter. I have the feeling she had read the book from beginning to end, which is another anomaly in this business. I'm about 200 pages into revising the manuscript, and boy is it stronger for it.

What would you say is the most valuable writers' training course you've taken? Allen Wolde's "Hook 'Em in 25 Words or Less" and Ann Christopher's "Sagging Middles."

What is your reason for writing? I got sick and tired of reading/watching other writers who were having all the fun with the stories in their heads.

What would the hero of your latest book say if he met you on the street? ¡Maldición, eres magnífico!

What would he DO? He'd probably walk close enough to sniff my hair while trying to decide whether or not to make his move.

What advice would you give to other aspiring writers? Listen to the voices in your head. After all, they're what got you to this point and will be with you through the thick and thin.
