A Few Words From Cheryl:

Questions We Asked Cheryl...
What is your favorite place to write? My home computer with the perfect keyboard and mouse. :-)
Are you a typewriter, Mac, or PC person? PC.
How many full-length novel manuscripts did you complete before selling? About seven.
Can you give us a quote from one of your best (or worst) rejection letters? The best is probably the worst. I didn't save it, but to paraphrase: "Your book is good, your voice is strong, your characters are engaging, but it's just not quite right and we're going to pass at this time." I just love it when they say no but won't tell you why!
What would you say is the most valuable writers' training course you've taken? There was no specific course that stands out. The best training was getting a frank but supportive critique group that helped me figure out what I did well and what I needed to strengthen in order to sell.
What is your reason for writing? I can't not write. I think many writers feel that way. It's a compulsion, and if I stopped I'd be insane. This is much healthier!
What would the hero of your latest book say if he met you on the street? "Thanks for writing the perfect heroine into my life!"
What would he DO? He'd probably fill me in on what they've been up to since the book ended.
What advice would you give to other aspiring writers? My best advice is to find what you do well. There are plenty of people in this business that will tell you where you're falling short and we always want to know what needs to be better. But if you want to succeed you need to know your strengths and write to them. That's your best foot in the door, so exploit those strengths and improve your craft/grammar and such as much as possible.
